A unique building on W. 17th Hutchinson, KS was first located at another location in the 1890s. It was first a church. Then I believe it was a one room school house. I do not know when it was moved, but it became a mortuary. You can still see the old cross on the top of the house. After it was a mortuary, it was turned into a regular house. You can still see the cut out of the old door for the school house. My mother lived there as a child with her three other brothers and sisters. Inside the house you can experience stomping coming from the second floor with the chandeliers shaking constantly. My grandmother was really mean to the kids one day and whipped them with a tree branch that she made the kids select. After the kids had left she went to sleep (in the bedroom known as the old one room school house. ) With a rude awakening she woke up by a slap on her face, she got up and looked around, and the kids were not there.
Another story from this house; my mother woke up in the middle of the night and saw her cat, so she reached down to grab it and put it on the bed and her hand went right through it. She did not think anything of it and went back to sleep. The next morning she woke up and went downstairs to the bathroom and saw her cat all bloody and dead. Another one is that when my grandmother moved in, my mom found an Ouija board in the room right up the stairs. My grandma threw it away, and it appeared in the same spot it was before. My mom threw it over the fence from the upstairs window and sure enough it showed back up in the closet. And the last experience from my mother's childhood that I can remember is that after my aunt had moved out, they later decided to check out the house and look inside. They just wanted to see what it looked like and if anybody lived there after them. And an older lady opened the door and said I believe these are yours and handed my aunt her old glasses. My aunt said this startled her, and she walked off.

Now the strange thing is that twenty years later my mother saw it up for rent. My mom, my brother and sisters, and I moved in. When us kids moved in we did not know any of its stories because we were too young. When we moved in all the kids loved the house. On the first day we were all sleeping with my mom downstairs, and we heard stomping and the chandeliers shaking. After that we were always scared to even go up there. One day my sister and I were playing ''cars'' on the furnace, and we saw what looked like legs and a pair of old see-through boots walking across it. It scared us. Inside this house there are two laundry shoots in the closet walls, but both of them looked really strange if you poke your head in them. Well, my brother always said that there was a noise coming from inside them, like a bang.

My old step dad at the time remembers one day after work he fell asleep on the couch. He felt something grab his hand and whisper in his ear. This house was really strange, and it still contained the old roll away bed from when my mom lived there as a child. There are more stories about this house; I just do not know all of them and cannot remember them.
