The house I used to live in as a kid on Highway 64 had originally been built in the path of that country highway 150 years before. It had been demolished and rebuilt down a short lane further into the property to make way for the road. Many elements from the original home were reused in building the new house, such as heavy iron doorknobs and locks, interior doors, salvaged wood flooring, etc. We rented this house and its ninety acres from the Johnson

family, who used to live in Vilonia and at one time also owned a grocery store. There were a lot of old pieces of furniture in the house, including an

elaborate electric organ, settees, tables, and mirrors. Many things were at least fifty years old. My sister and I were beside ourselves with joy to find a clunky out upright in the house, and were delighted to take piano lessons in town.
We managed about six months of lessons before Mrs. Johnson decided to take the piano without warning. It was hers, after all, but my sister and I took it hard. That was the end of music lessons for us. The school
