And being a part of the special ed I had to do just that. All the kids were playing basketball on one court and the other just silly games. I sat on the bleachers watching them. Then I noticed something in the corner of my eye, someone walking. Didn't think much of it until it came out of the corner. Crystal clear in broad daylight. A distorted figure walking past a kid. Cold sweat streamed down my face; almost fainting. Submitted by Grace

First, Abita is not named after the girl in the legend referred to by another writer. It is a Choctaw word. When the white settlers asked the Indians what the name of the place was, they said Abita and so they named it Abita Springs for the spring there. Unfortunately, they didn't inquire further to learn that ''Abita'' in Choctaw simply meant SPRING... So they essentially named it Spring Springs. The most interesting haunted house there is now a gift shop on the main street. Before that it was a gallery owned by a colleague of mine and there were many strange events during the time she had it. These included sudden loud crashing noises, pictures being removed from the walls and placed neatly in a stack at the room's center, and chairs moving around on the porch. The later was seen by a very puzzled police officer. Its original use was as a nursing home so it could be that some residents don't intend to move on.
