often than not, I would walk out of my bedroom and head toward the living room, passing the bathroom on the way. I felt like someone was intensely watching me, and when I would turn to look over my shoulder I would catch a glimpse of a man's face with dark eyes - maybe angry, maybe confused but always putting me on notice. While it was always a very quick glimpse and then nothing, almost as if it were a dream, I got the feeling that he was from the town's early

history, probably the turn of the century.
I felt that he was dirty with a couple of day's beard growth and possibly with a hat. He reminded me

of the kind of character you would see in an old western movie, hanging out in a saloon just waiting for someone to make a wrong move. If I sat on the couch in the living room, I felt like he was watching me from the hallway, or the kitchen, or the back common room, always from the shadows. However, even if I turned on all the lights in the house, I could still feel him watching.
Finally, one night I stopped in the hallway upon seeing him.
