I was raised by my Grandmother in Central Austin. When I was about 12 we moved far south due to a fire that burned her house down. My Grandmother surprised me with a huge party for my 13th birthday. All of my friends from school and few kids from the neighborhood were invited. We had so many games, candy, cake and drinks. It was so much fun. I did notice a random little girl standing and watching us play from a distance. She seemed sweet but a little odd by the clothes she was wearing. Her clothes were like something kids in the older days would wear. I figured she may have been a neighborhood kid that got invited and I just hadn't met her. I saw her playing on that old swing under our large oak tree. It had been there since we moved in.
The kids decide we'd play hide and seek. So I hid in the barn out back. No one would ever find me there. After a while the kids couldn't find me and I was about to blow my cover when suddenly I heard a small girls voice say ( THIS IS MY FAVORITE GAME ) I called out who's there ? No one answered but directly behind me the same voice whispered (I KNOW ALL THE HIDING PLACES... I USED TO LIVE HERE. ) When I turned around no one was there. I was afraid, so I started walking quickly out from the barn. There it was again. She said (I SEE YOU!) This time the voice was coming from the upper level of the barn. I ran out of the barn scared out of my mind. All the kids were asking what was wrong and where I was but I didn't say a word.
When all the kids we're gone I told my Grandmother. By this time all the kids were grouped up together in line for cake. Everyone except for that little girl. I had a hard time sleeping the next couple of nights. I never played outside anymore. I mostly went to sleepovers or hung out at different friends houses. From time to time I'd look out my bedroom window but never saw her again. My Grandmother said the little girl was a kind ghost and would never cause us harm. I found comfort in grandma telling me there was nothing to be afraid of. She said the presence of the little girl was a lost soul of a child that wasn't given the attention or life she deserved. I agreed and wished we could give her some closure.
