I was born in Brownwood and had numerous experiences growing up there that defied logical explanation. One that readily comes to mind happened when I was 16 years old. I was gazing out my bedroom window one morning when I saw something coming out of the fog underneath the streetlight on the corner.
It was a tall dark three-dimensionsal figure dressed in a long military coat with numerous dogs following him. He walked hurriedly through the fog past our house headed for the woods in the cul-de-sac at the other end of the street.

I was terrified! I recognized him as a man who had died a week or so earlier! He was headed for the home he'd known in life: a raggedy old shack surrounded by bunkers he'd dug around his property in the woods.

I was terrified he'd turn toward the window and see me. In life he'd had a lot of dogs Maybe 10 to 20. When he died the city had the dogs put to death but some of them had accompanied him back as ghostly apparitions.
Before his death this man had returned from WWII ''shell shocked. '' today he would be diagnosed as suffering from ''post traumatic stress syndrome. '' he hated children and whenever we saw him we'd run! He'd stutter and scream I hate children! I'll kill ya! I didn't wait around to see if his ghost made it all the way to his old home or if it dissolved into the fog.
To see him after he died was more than I could take. Although in death he had me running once more I never saw his ghost again.
