In the 1960's there was a terrible flood in Camp Wood. The crossing, now know as Hackberry crossing, located on hwy 55 between Camp Wood and Rocksprings, was the site of death for two people. A young woman, dressed in her wedding gown, and her father, were driving from Rocksprings to a ranch just outside of Camp Wood for the wedding. The crossing was clear even though there had been a lot of rain. The man started to drive across. A wall of water appeared out of nowhere washing their car of the road and down the creek. Later that week, both were found dead in their car.

If you go to Hackberry crossing after dark, it is not uncommon to see a woman in a wedding gown on the side of the road. It is said she is trying to catch a ride to get to here wedding. .

When I used to live in Venus my brother used to get up and feed our roosters at six a clock in the morning. He said when he turned off the water after feeding and watering the roosters he looked up and saw a boy walking down the road with a gun and he disappeared by some gas tank or something. So my brother ran inside and told my dad and my dad said his friend said that a young boy years ago was hunting out there and he was cleaning his gun and he didn't know that it was still loaded and he accidentally pulled the trigger of his shot gun and that's what people said that my brother saw that day.
