We bought a neat 1904 Victorian home on S. Walnut years ago. We gutted it and started the restoration a few weeks after buying it. Right after we had bought it I checked the tiniest room upstairs. It was getting dark, and I felt something tap me on the back of the head. I assumed it was a light string switch dangling. It was not. There was nothing hanging off the ceiling to hit my head. I got goose bumps and left. We moved in finally after a lot of work. Constantly we heard an old phonograph type record player playing music in the upstairs room. Nightly footsteps were heard going up the stairs, opening the French doors, and then vanish. My daughter, who was three at the time, would wake up several times a week asking if I saw that man. He wore a hat and whistled she said. She said he came out of her closet every night. This scared me.

He liked my daughter though, if she was getting into trouble about to get a spanking I would hear knocks at one of the doors, and nobody would be there. He always frazzled me and got her off the hook. We found a lot of creepy history in this home. One fireplace was made of marble from a scratched tombstone. The upstairs housed injured war soldiers at one time. The grandson of the builders lost their grandson as a POW in the war after seven years. His room was upstairs. The ghost always hid keys and played jokes. They, however, did not scare me or make me feel threatened, but I knew they were there.
