In 1988 I was hired by the owner who was a member of my church to clean her house on N. Main Street in Jasper, TX. I had no knowledge at all of the history or rumors about the house. I alone started cleaning downstairs in the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, the bedroom, and the bathroom. Everything was peaceful, and I felt great. Then I stopped for a sandwich break.
Even though the owner directly told me that I did not need to clean upstairs,

I was so curious, so I went up to check it out. As soon as I entered the upstairs bedroom, I felt an enormous sense of dread. It was the feeling of extreme

hopelessness. I felt the heaviest air of sadness I have ever felt and have never felt since that day. I saw that the toilet was clogged as well as a bad backup in the tub. I made myself stay long enough to clean the bathroom, but it was difficult. I actually felt like I needed to run out of there.
Before going back downstairs I stopped to gaze out of the east-facing window, which was directly over the porch. I felt as if my world was over, and a strong
