I work in town and overheard a conversation between an old woman and her cousin who have both lived here their whole lives. The old woman told the other lady that back in the old days some townspeople dragged a woman to her death.
As she was dying she supposedly cursed the town saying ''may it never grow and be prosperous! '' the old ladies were reminscing about the old days and noticing that not only has the town stopped growing it has actually lost businesses such as a hospital and a couple of fancy department stores.
Don't know if the story is true but who would know their town better than a pair of lifelong residents?.

Comment by Anonymous: Yeah not true. The town has exploded in the last several years and has succumbed to the dreaded urban sprawl as Austin has become unaffordable for too many people. Ya'll have gotten a huge Walmart and ton of other businesses in the last 10 years alone. New neighborhoods are going up, and the school district population is booming (but it's too bad your district is led by nepotism and general incompetence down to the administration level). Curses can't contend with the economy and people needing an affordable place to live.
