A lot of crazy horror stuff happened near 44th and Bentsen Road back in the late 1980s. There was this wickedly extra high canal bank in which it was a blind climb not being able to see the roadway much less an oncoming vehicle. There were lots of crashes lots of evil knievals that wrecked onto the northwest corner of Edinburg canal and Bentsen Road. I heard a female screaming one late night while on patrol. I investigated.
There were only four of us patrolling that night. We had to clear most calls on our own. I searched a 20-acre tract and found no foot sign and no crime scene. There were no houses nearby just the few that were north of FM 495 and south of 2-Mile Road. I heard this female scream several times within months apart. My buddies and I also heard and searched. It wasn't animal; it wasn't a bird. It was almost certainly a human. We could never find the source.

Months or weeks after last experience a deputy came across a mutilated human-like torso. It was degutted hanging upside from a tree. Its body parts were scattered around in a circle. Its face looked like a cat but human like. Its body was human like size about 5 feet slender. It had weird feet with claws. It could have passed for human. Myself and three other law enforcement witnessed. There was no media coverage other than a body dump by Bentsen Road and FM 495. It was a gory sight. About 10 more in the same condition were found among surrounding towns, mostly west of Hidalgo County. I saw three others.

It was a hate crime in my opinion that went unsolved. The screams we heard may have been ghost screams because we never found an in-progress crime scene. I had good tracking skills that I had learned from the dinosaur cops. This was one of the weirdest serial slayings I have seen.
