We used to party a lot especially at night after the bars were closed, so we used to go to the Anacuitas Cemetery about midnight since it was lighted by the big crucifix, so who could hurt us? After walking alone through the cemetery path each of us two had to bring a flower from a recent grave just to prove one had walked the grave path.
Then after some time back in 1966 as we ran out of beer we were thinking of going to El Shorty on South Texas Boulevard to get some after hours beer quarts. There appeared a guy whose face was covered by the hat's brim too low. He was in black clothing on a big black horse with two burlap sacks across the saddle. He called me by my nickname saying ''I've been looking for you to invite you to drink with me. L have these two sacks full of beer, so what do you say?'' Not thinking much l said ''ok. '' Then he said ''follow me,'' so we followed him on his horse. We were in the car, and as he came to the end of the cemetery by the apartments (now being torn down or reconstructed. ) He disappeared and the smell around was that of sulphur like the smell of a smelting foundry.

Never again did we return to sing and party there. Even a cop on patrol that night got to experience the stench of sulphur. He told us never to go there to party. He said that it was the devil.

In may of 1966 my parents and I were driving to Mercedes from Donna to attend a school graduation. I was 16 at the time. My dad was driving and I was in back seat. I was looking out the window as we were approaching the town.
I saw a small old woman dressed in a black long dress. She was leading a cow, and the cow had a bell around it's neck. I saw her and asked out loud I wonder where she is going. My parents asked who I was talking about.
