Comment by Gil: The old dezavala was built on an Indian burial ground, it's a fact. So they built a new dezavala across the street and the disturbed spirits went to the new one after the old dezavala was torn down. I think a special ed school sits where the old one was.
Everybody should know the story. I went back in 1989 and the lights would turn on and off and you could hear the piano playing.
There's a house on the corner of Garfield and Golfcourse. I don't know what the story was behind that lot but no one could remain in that house long. It was a beautiful home and after some time it was knocked down and remained empty for some time.
I think there was finally a house built on that lot but I've since moved, if anyone knows the story please comment.|

Comment by Tonya: It was the corner of Midkiff and golf course. My aunt lived in the house as a rental. She said doors in kitchen opened all the time, beds were unmade .... Cold chills.... They had a séance which caused a dark presence and the room turned ice cold with doors slamming....
Everyone ran out that night... She moved out the next day... The story/history was a man and wife lived there with their special needs daughter who they kept hidden away because they were ashamed of her...
The little girl died in early teens and was never given a proper funeral... My aunt lived there shortly in the 70s... They never could keep the house rented or could sell it... They built the house at a prime location, didn't sell for years until recently...
That is all I know :-).
Comment by Jade: Now that area is some sort of doctors offices….
Comment by Putz: This house was next to ''The Bird Lady's'' house Midge Erskine. The lady took care of wounded and injured birds for many years. I have no idea about the house on the corner, but Midge never mentioned anything about it to me. She had Eagles, hawks, and many other birds of prey and when we would go rabbit hunting, we would take her the ones we shot, to feed her birds with.
The (pink colored) house behind it became a training center for German shepherds, as the owner had left it just for that purpose. Midges house and the one on the corner were torn down for the medical center which has replaced it. I have lived here for 60+ years and never heard of it being haunted.
The house across the street (Golf Course... On the corner)was owned by the stupid sheriff Dallas Smith, known to be a wife beater, beat up arrestees before taking them to jail, being a known liar and thief as a DPS officer in the 70's and 80's.
The corner house (across Midkiff was owned by Joe Henderson Sr. (co-owner of Mustang Mud Corp), and the place where the 2 condos it (catty cornered from it on midkiff and Golf Course) used to be a single residence owned by BeBe (I forget) who for years was the secretary of the Midland Community Theater.
The turner mansion (museum) is another story. This is where the ''legend'' of the dog with the murdered owners killer's finger found in it's throat, originated. It is not true, and it was a manhunt that eventually caught the killer who was sentenced to death, and then released after serving only 20 years, saying he was ''redeemed'' and was a preacher. It is said that Mr. Turner haunts his mansion.
