I was going to San Angelo with my little brother from Robert Lee on Highway 208 about two days before Thanksgiving in the 1970s. We were both going to see a movie. It was foggy but not a thick fog that night. We had already gone through the mountain pass between Robert Lee and Angelo, and we went by red creek. There was a curve up ahead, and close to this curve a cousin of mine in the nineteen forties had a fatal car wreck.
I believe that dad had told me at one time it was known as Dead Man's Curve due to the many fatalities that happened there. As we went around that curve, I looked over to the left. My heart went into my throat. As the fog lifted standing in front the gate was a figure with long scraggly hair with its head bent over beckoning for me with its hand.
