them were crying... Some stood silent... Like a funeral.... It was ugly... We didn't get as close as the others did...
But we could see them.... They were coming from the end of the street and were walking in front of everybody like a parade.... A very mournful parade.... They were coming out of an old irrigation pipe at the corner and they walked to the other end of the road disappearing into the canal..
Some walked hand in hand and some

walked alone just looking to the side at the spectators.. They were dead we knew they were but we could see them as if they were alive.... Their clothes

were very old....
Like in the old black n white photos we see.... We could just hear their feet... Walking... And little sounds here and there from those of us who were watching... They walked to the canal and disappeared''....
That's more or less how mother explained it to me.. She said the people watched and when it was over they crossed themselves and went back into their homes.... It makes me wonder if this is on occasion..
