night. No one was ever there. After school started things quieted down. My family had joined me in our school house, and I wasn't spending nights on campus, anymore. Slowly, the events of the summer faded from memory. It wasn't until the following spring semester, just before school ended, I was vividly reminded.
Our school hosted a Hotdog Dinner for all the students who had reached their reading goal. This was a big deal for the students. They brought their families

with them to eat and celebrate their achievement. All cafeteria tables were moved into the gym to accommodate the crowd. Afterwards all school staff in

attendance pitched in to move the tables back. As we carried the tables down the hall, my secretary asked if I had seen ''Chief'' lately. This was the nickname I had given to whatever it was people had seen in the school. I said I had not and that he was probably on vacation. We finished up, and everyone went home about 8pm.
At about 10:30pm, my phone rang. The head of maintenance was on the line and asked if I had called him. I said I had not.
