By watching him I finally noticed that he was peering through the door leading from the kitchen into the formal dining room. I was then able to walk into the kitchen without him freaking. I walked with him into the middle of the dining room which we were using as a play room and was covered with his toys. He finally let me put him down. He stood in the middle of the room with me beside him and pointed through the glass dining room, all the time doing

this hissing thing. He finally got up enough nerve to walk to the glass doors, and he would peer up the stairs to the second floor then run back to me.

He did this several times until I took him back into the living room. This whole incident lasted about ten minutes in length.
I was so freaked out; I called my wife and told her to get home. Upon relating the story to her she also at that time conveyed to me some of the same feelings I had had about the upstairs and seeing things out of the corner of her eyes. Over the next couple of days we cryptically asked questions of neighbors without crying
