In Yoakum, Texas there is an old burned out church on the road to Sweet Home, TX. When I was a little kid it was said to be haunted. My mom told me that when she was young they would go out to the ruins and hear voices and singing in the night. I do not know if anyone ever saw a ghost, but I do know that in my mother's time lots of other places in Yoakum were said to be haunted. Not just the hospital that everyone talks about. I do know that down in the

This is my story believe or not. In the year of 2000 I went to live in Yoakum, Texas which used to be my home town. I lived there for one year in a duplex on Coke street. My grandson and me were trying to start a new life but to my surprise after not even a week there I was unpacking one day, I made him something to eat, and then I went to sit in the living room to eat something myself watching TV for a bit. My grandson who was 8 years old at the time came back in the kitchen to get a drink. To my surprise and his too he started screaming out to me ''grandma grandma the trash can is on fire. '' Quickly I took it outside to put the fire out with the water hose. Then I asked him ''what did you do son?'' He said he didn't do it. I believed him because we didn't have our gas turned on yet; we were eating sandwiches. So I started wondering about it. Ok so during that year strange things started happening.. I would be in the kitchen, and I would see shadows go by the window in the kitchen. And something breathing down my neck when I was washing dishes. At night I would hear footsteps and two men mumbling every night after 12 midnight. I never could make out the words, but to me it sounded like one or the other was very depressed because of the way they were expressing to one another. Well, I would get up to check on my grandson to see if he was OK. He would be sound asleep.
The other nights I would hear doors slam and really hard pounding, and I could feel something behind me in the shower also. I started to pray to god at night before lying down, ''Please let me get some sleep Lord. '' I was hoping would fall asleep after praying, but every night it was the same thing over and over again. I finally went to the store and bought some candles. Well, my candles would go out every time. There wasn't a breeze of air in the apt, and the candles would turn very black. You could see the black smoke just coming out of the candle glass. I thought it was all in my mind and I wasn't going to alarm my grandson, so I kept it to myself. When my kids started coming over to visit my oldest daughter slept on the couch. Next morning she said she tried calling out to someone that night, but something was choking her and she could not breathe. Then one other time my niece and nephew came for the weekend and without me saying anything to them (because I didn't want to scare them off), my niece said to me that she couldn't sleep all night because she could hear voices late at night. I said maybe it was neighbors out drinking late. She said no; she had looked out the window and said everything was pitch dark. Sometimes I could smell a strange sulfur odor.
