In 1980 there have been several anecdotes of citizens walking across the land that is Highland High School now. They claim that suddenly a dust storm would kick up. While wandering through the dust, the recount seeing a figure in he middle of the storm.
Assuming it is another person caught in the storm, they merely ignore it and walk off the land, after which the dust subsides. Those who have experienced this thought nothing of it until one day a man was found dead by choking on the dust.
After that the armed donated his land to he city, on which is now Highland High School.

I have seen and heard some of things written here on web about Gilbert , but one that seems to be an ongoing haunt in Gilbert is that of a Civil War veteran that came to Arizona because of illness. His life after coming to Arizona was good as his health returned and he could contribute to his family farm. His family lived through the great depression by harvesting some of the good crops. And selling or helping the community. When the government wrote to him that his veteran's pay would stop roughly $80 a month. His farm had not producing large Harvest and taxes from the county and state were rising along with the growing number of families . Most large farms were being divided and more roads crisscrossing onto and around the canals. If you can, look at gilbet on mapquest or even a beta photo you can see the streets of Gilbert do not align with the other cities it borders. Neither the latitude or longitude meet the interstate road nearby. It seems that the ghost or sprit is still around to let folks driving through know this is his place. Like chills sitting at a light on a main street near the old high school indoor pool. This pool is fed by a geo-thermal and is very relaxing to swim in, I hope the town of Gilbert can stay ''the small town'' I have known it to be. And I'll be there this Saturday for the town's first ghost tour of the H.S. It's $10 on the web and $11 at the door starts at 5 pm ends at 11 pm. The tour guide is the same guide to the paranormal team who's show is to air sometime soon. I hear They are were some great EVP and recordings that the producers decided to make Gilbert onto it first show. I be waiting for the Pilot that's for sure. .
