The credibility of this tale is that I've been to the cabin site which has debris and old littered food cans along with it's chimney still upright. I've also been in the mine which is just a small cave hidden deeper in the woods.
No ghost of the prospecter seen but the story is creepy. While staying there at night I would imagine a burning boat floating quietly out on the lake. Thank goodness I never saw it!.

I have a Spirit Lake, Id story. Let the locals dry to disclaim this... At a friend's lake cabin, which had several buildings on the grounds, we were up late visiting with his aunt. I was asked to go outside and get something from his car.

As I reached for the doorknob, I didn't see that it was already opened, only noticing that after it suddenly slammed shut. In a rush of panic and shock I went back into the room they were talking and asked if there was some kind of central heating in the cabin that would change the pressure of the room.
The door was located inside of an entry, so wind shutting it was out of the question. They very seriously looked at each other. My friend's aunt said, that must have been (so-and-so's) ghost''. I couldn't believe it but they were very calm and serious.
It was the ghost of the old care-taker who had a room built on the back of a garage and he was found dead in his rocking chair (which was still in the room when I looked at it). Not very fun but the occurrence wasn't tramatic thankfully.
