Kirtland AFB is a large area and contains many square miles of desert land in the mountains. One section of this desert land in the mountains is reserved for a geology group, and this is where my story takes place. We were a cleaning crew, a group of 4, driving up to this remote area to clean their buildings. As with any military base, access is limited, and this particular     section of the base is even more limited. There's an additional access gate. As we drove up a short dirt road, which leads to the geologists' access gate, I noticed an elderly woman, with gray hair, wearing shabby gray clothing. She was sweeping the road with an antique corn-husk broom. I made a comment to my coworkers, who were riding in the van with me. I said ''why is this old lady sweeping the road?'' A young man who was riding in the back is the only one of us who didn't see her; he was playing with his phone. To answer my question, he asked ''what lady?''
