come I missed that?'' I wondered if my eyes were playing tricks on me. I checked it again in the morning, and both the faces were still there. I didn't know what to make of it.

I showed my discovery to my wife and a close friend, and they were equally horrified. I must confess that they could not spot the black fellow when I asked them to look for a second face. However, they could but when I pointed him out. Without revealing anything about the
second face, I asked them about his facial expression. ''He appears to be laughing,'' they said.

Roswell is not a big city, so the things to do for fun here are rather limited. My friends and I would go seek out abandoned places on the outskirts of the city looking for ''ghost. '' So far all of our excursions resulted in fruitless labor; that is until one night we had come to the abandoned air force base about twenty miles outside of the city on Highway 380 going towards Tatum. It was a bunch of old barracks that were completely in ruins. We walked through numerous disheveled rooms only to find walls sprayed with tacky graffiti and tattered with bullet holes from people using the place as target practice.

In the dark distance you could hear crickets and the gentle breeze of the midnight wind. However, there was another sound-- something that I couldn't quite distinguish. It was the sound of faint drums pounding at an off rhythm beat. It was coming from all sides of us, but it was so far away that it amused us instead of startled us. There were some oil refineries nearby, so we just figured it was some kind of noise from various oil drums. Some rancher's cows were squatted all around the decrepit base. As we explored the place in the dark of night with our flashlights, we stumbled upon a young calf that had fallen into a manhole. It was about six feet deep. The calf had no way of escaping, so we decided to attempt to save it.
