As you can imagine, this was not an easy feat, and it took some time. We had some rope and a friend foolishly but bravely went in the manhole with the frightened animal. As we were trying to pull the calf out, the drum noise began to sound closer. They multiplied, completely surrounding us. We were occupied at saving the calf, but when they kept getting louder and louder our attention shifted. At this point we could no longer ignore them. It seemed

like they started to beat in unison to a certain ''Native American'' sounding rhythm. We began to get frightened. They literally sounded like they were

only a few yards away. We couldn't see anything.
In my fear I contemplated on putting down the calf, so we could get out of there as quickly as possible, but we pushed on, and eventually the calf was freed. Once we saved the animal, the drums seemed to have broken up. They once again became distant. None of us could explain what happened or could figure out what it was. I believe the base has been torn down now, but I hear that the drums still faintly
