I was working as a travel nurse at Northern Navajo Medical Center in 2001 when I had my experience. My charge nurse and friend told me while I was there to never pick up any hitchhikers. One day on my way to work somewhere between Farmington and the reservoir maybe around Fruitland I saw a Native American man walking towards the reservoir. At first I passed him by, but a mile or two down the road I internally heard a voice that said ''turn around and go

back and pick him up,'' so I did.
We actually had a conversation. He said ''I am surprised you picked me up; especially since you are not from

around here''. People from here won't even pick up a hitchhiker. My reply was I wasn't going to, but a voice told me to turn around and pick you up, so I did. I asked him where he was headed, and he replied the road that went out past the Shiprock. I told him I could drop him off right at the turn off from the main road, but I was headed to work at the hospital and was now running a little late. He replied ''ok''. I dropped him off.
