In the heart of downtown St. George there is something of a non-descript two-story red brick house. Built in the 1950s, the home has seen a lot of living, and apparently dying within as occupants have come and gone, imparting something of themselves to the home like a recording, a memory kept forever in the brick and mortar.
Our experience with the home began in the early 1970s when we moved to St. George from another small town in Utah. There

was always an odd feeling that seemed to permeate the walls. Not of something frightening, but a feeling of something ''other'' that occupied the same
|
sphere as you. Certain rooms felt alive, as if there were person or persons within that would disappear as soon as you entered the room. As children, my brother and I would hear movement in the basement and see fleeting glimpses of someone moving, always just out of reach. Shadows and whispers from the stairwell or closets were a common occurrence.
My brother vividly remembers looking out the window of the front door. It was the kind with
