My ghost story about Vernal is not about my own experience but rather about the experience of my great-grandmother who was a long time Vernal resident. I lived in Vernal from the age of one to about the age of three and a half. We lived in the old territorial governor's mansion before it was renovated. My great-grandma and great-grandpa had moved into a house in the area that used to be known as Hayden, Utah around 1909-1910. My great-grandma was alone

in the house with my grandmother who was around one or two years old because my great-grandpa was out hunting. The house had a rocking chair in it that

was from its previous owners. The house was basically one big room, as were many cabins of that era, with a wash area and sink pump with a bed in the corner and pot-bellied stove at one end.
That night as she lay in bed with my grandmother in her arms going off to sleep she began to hear a creaking sound coming from the rocking chair in the corner behind her. She tried not to notice it, dismissing it as the old cabin settling and attempted to go
