My family moved to Auburn to a house on Lincoln Way in 1994. My parents rented the house from an old kind man. I was drawn to it from the first time I saw the big circular driveway and forest-like yard. It was an old stucco home with hardwood floors. It was the kind of windows that opened outward with no screen and with a big stone fireplace in the living room.
I was 11 when we moved in. My mother remembers asking the man jokingly if it was ''haunted

or something'' as an explanation for why the rent was so cheap. The man just smiled at her. It wasn't long after that my dad and I found out firsthand

that that's exactly what it was.
One night I woke in the middle of the night and wanted a drink from the kitchen. Mine and my brother's bedrooms were on one side of the house, and you walked through the living room to get to the kitchen and my parents' room. As I walked through the living room, I was shocked to see a man standing at the fireplace. He looked like a ‘hobo' to me at the time as a young teen, and I froze. He looked at me and then
