I lived in a house near Fairview and South H Street. It was a pretty nice home, not too old or anything. It was built in the late 1960s. The den area had been converted into the living room with the actual living room being converted into a huge bedroom complete with closets. The new living room which was right off the kitchen/dining room area had a sliding glass door leading out to the patio and back yard on one side. There was also a door leading to the attached garage adjacent to that on the other side of the room. The day we moved in my friend Lacey and I were unpacking boxes. I was in the living room area with her in the far part of the kitchen area, and we started noticing that the house made a lot of 'sounds', especially as it got later into the evening. We joked about it a little assuming that they were just the normal 'sounds' that a house made as it 'settled'. My husband shared in that assumption as well.
After a couple of months in our new home I started noticing that there were way too many 'sounds' to chalk up to 'settling' houses, especially after midnight (I am a night-owl so most times I am up till at least 2:00 am or better. ) The sounds I was talking about range from normal but strangely frequent creaking and thumping in the walls. Sometimes it was as if the heater had kicked on (although it was a hundred degrees and the heater including the gas to it was not even on. ) There were also sounds of footsteps of a person or something fairly large walking very heavily on the roof, and sometimes even as if whatever it was had jumped onto the roof. There were times that this sound was so loud that it would startle me out of sleep. My stepdaughter came out of the front bathroom where she had been showering one night yelling at my sons about tapping or hitting the bathroom window with sticks only to find that they were all sound asleep. There were no branches or debris near the window.
The scariest sound to me that happened pretty frequently was when I was sitting in the garage having a smoke. Everything was quiet, and then I heard something that sounded like keys or something metal scrape across the door leading into the house on the inside. It was as if someone walked by it and brushed across it. Then I heard the doorknob moving as if someone was attempting to open the door. At first I thought it was my husband or my stepdaughter, but after no one came out I would go in and everyone was sleeping. I did not mention it to anyone. Then one night my stepdaughter came in my room from out there looking kind of freaked and asked if I had just tried to come out there because she heard the same thing. I have had different friends over and not said anything. We would be sitting outside, and it would happen, and they would mention it to me. No one ever came out and the door never actually opened.
Later one night I was out in the garage at about 1:00 am, and I heard that sound again. I looked up at the door as the knob turned right in front of my eyes. The door, which opened inward, slung open with no one anywhere near it. Then another night at about 1:45am while I was out here I heard the sound of the knob, but it was louder than usual, and the sound was different. After about five minutes of waiting I went to open the door, and it was locked! The deadbolt on the door was locked which meant that someone or something manually had to turn the deadbolt an entire half turn to the locked position. And I knew that no one was there who could physically do that because I was home alone. My husband was at work and my three-year old cannot even make it budge, and I seriously doubt my eleven-month old could have even have touched it. Scared the hell outta me! I went straight in and went to bed with my TV and bathroom light on! It locked me out. I wonder, what was that about? Creepy! .

Comment by Cynthia: Hi. I live on Dayton Ave and I had similar experiences like yours especially people walking on my roof.... I really thought it was satanic stuff.
