Yes I can remember the old-timers talking about the old haunted Cass House just like it was yesterday. I am 88 years old now and I still get nervous when I walk by the house I remember when it was in very poor condition and boarded up for many years before it was restored it is beautiful now. But I still feel the ghosts talking when the mist rolls into Cayucos and the dead give up their secrets to those who dare to walk by the house has eyes in it's shutters
that watch you as you walk by.|

Part 2 of Great Grandma's Victorian house story in Cayucos California: So, as the kids drew straws it was the girl in the group that drew the short one. The other boys, (Andrew and Nicholas) showed relief in their faces, Grandma said that the girl who drew the short straw was not very well liked by the other kids because she was a loud, obnoxious, bossy ''smart alley. '' She was the mayor's step-daughter and had to have her way on everything. Grandma said that even she did not care for the girl saying some man in the future was going to rue the day he ever married ''that one. '' Grandma could not remember her name, but she often said it can be looked up if you search the dusty old hand written records in the lunacy home.
Anyway, Ace ''J. R. '' Johnson, Captain of the football team and son of the Undertaker, had finally reached the top floor of the old house. He took the embalmed hand out of his coat pocket and tied the hand on the doorknob with a piece of twine, then closed the door to the last room (The hand sticking out to great the first unlucky kid to grab for the doorknob. ) Johnson chuckled to himself as he crept down the rotted, creaky staircase and exited the house. The other kids looked worried for the girl who had drawn the short straw, but they were sure glad it was not them, even ''old loudmouth'' as grandma said was pretty pale at that moment. Ace gave the lantern to the girl and said to her ''remember you must be at the top of the staircase at the last door show the light at the stroke of midnight. '' Andrew was the timekeeper using his grandpa's old pocket watch backed up by Nicholas (They were the best of friends and would in time become quite wealthy in the future with their real estate deals. ) As the girls entered the house, they started on the bottom floor at room one the light shone through the dusty old cobweb window, then room two, room three, room four and so on. Andrew, Nicholas, and Ace were getting worried. Andrew said ''that is just great. Now she is going to be in the club, and we will never be rid of her. ''
Then room # 12 on the second floor showed the glow of the lantern. Nicholas asked Andrew for the time. It was one minute to midnight. All the boys anxiously waited. Ace said she will chicken out. Midnight came and went the boys waited and waited and waited. At 20 minutes past midnight the lantern never was seen in room #13,but it came on in the dining room of the bottom floor. Ace laughed and said ''well, boys I guess she chickened out, we don't have to worry about her joining our club, I had a surprise for her in room 13. '' The boys cautiously crept to the house and slowly blinking their eyes in the darkness. They saw an old woman with her back to them with snow white scraggy hair sitting on a broken old chair the lantern on its side the glass broken softly lighting the room. Ace said ''Maam, have you seen the girl who came in here a minute ago?'' The boys blood chilled as the old hag turned to face them, the embalmed hand in her mouth chewing on the flesh from the fingers. She never said a word, but the people said it was the cackle of her voice and maniacal laugh that just about drove them insane.
