I was living in a turn of the century Tudor Building near Lake Merritt in the 1990s. During that time I had two ghost encounters. The first time my friend and I were entering the front door of the building around ten at night. The door led into an entryway which had a mailbox alcove off to the right. I saw someone glide down the stairs from the left and enter the alcove, but when we got inside and went to the mailboxes, there was no one there. My friend

immediately said ''where did that guy go?'' so I knew I was not seeing things.
The second time I was alone leaving my apartment on the fifth floor.

I started to descend the staircase and saw a figure dressed in white on the landing on the fourth floor. In a few seconds, I was on the fourth floor, but there was no one there. Later that week I was talking to the landlord, and she said that someone in the building had died recently and asked if I knew him. I said ''I didn't think so. '' She then described him as the guy who was always wearing his white tennis outfit.
