Ok, just to confirm, I'm OFFICIALLY the mayor of Crazy town! No one will believe me, (especially at 2am, lol) that... Well... Yesterday, I saw a ghost.
It was about 12:30 midnight and I was just getting off work. I was riding my bike home by Lake Merritt and I noticed this random man standing still across the street on the sidewalk. He was facing the street and seemed to just be staring into nowhere. Thing that caught my eye was that I couldn't see his face. Even though it was dark out, I still could not even make out any facial features at all. The only thing I know was that he was wearing all black and had on a fedora type hat.
I could somehow tell he was around 50 yrs old. I kept staring and as I rode past him, he noticed that I was staring at him and he started to wave at me. Like a friendly, greeting type wave. I still couldn't see his face, but I could tell he was friendly. For a split second, I wanted to turn around and go back to get a closer look, then my instincts kicked in and said, ''Are you nuts? It's Oakland, at midnight & some dude is waiving at you? Get the **** outta here!''

I saw a couple holding hands walking right behind him about to pass and thought to myself ''Well, they'll see him. '' But then I thought, ''Wait, you have no way of contacting them to see if they saw the same thing''.

As I turned the bend and rode away from that weird eerie part of the lake, I found myself struggling to remember the Our Father prayer. Mind you, I haven't prayed since 8th grade Catholic School. Then I just said to myself, ''Shake it off. It was just your bad vision. ''
Out of pure curiosity, I just got home from work a little while ago & Googled, ''Ghosts of Lake Merritt''. I really didn't find anything relevant, BUT... When I clicked on ''Images'' and the first image was HIM! Same hat, same vibe. Went to a few websites to find out more info and supposedly a lot of people see him around the lake.
His name was Reginald Lockett (1947-2008). He was a poet, activist, performer, and local legend during changing times; he was a big part of Oakland. So much so, Mayor Dellums made May 22nd. Reginald Lockett Day.
