I live on 46th st near the Emeryville / Oakland line with my daughter and her adopted son in a 4 plex she owns. In September of 2011 it was necessary for me to drive my autistic grandson ''jakeel'' to his new school until the special education bus transportation had been arranged. Jakeel is 15 years old very bright and excruciatingly honest--he does not know how to lie even to spare someone's feelings; a common trait in autistic spectrum children. Every morning at 8 am I would drive him to Oakland technical High School. Our regular route was to drive east up 43rd st stop at Martin Luther king Jr Boulevard and then continue east on 43rd which goes under a bart/freeway overpass where from time to time many homeless people have lived.
