Comment by Mark: The only empty lot with a palm tree that I know of is on the corner of Greenville and Fallbrook. It was a drug store until the mid 1950s called ''Southside Pharmacy''. Here's how I know about the drug store: It was obvious that the wooden siding on my house had been replaced because it was different from the original siding that was still up by one of the roof peaks.
Why they didn't replace that one and only spot I don't know because they had some of the new stuff left over which was put up on one of the walls inside the garage. I had to take some of the siding off to fix the doorway in the garage one day and I found this old calendar hanging in between the studs where they had left it and just put the siding up over it - without taking it down.
It had been just hanging there behind that siding all that time. The calendar was for the year of 1955! Each month had an advertisement of the Southside Pharmacy and someone had marked ''June 2nd'' as a reminder to have the ''baby's prescription filled'' that tripped me out! I took it to the historical society and they wanted it bad but they didn't want to give me anything for it so I kept it.

Anyway the lot is right next store to where Ed Tabias lives. It probably doesn't have anything to do with the ghostly images seen on D St. but the lot described with a palm tree reminded me of that.

Comment by Doug: Wow!!! He's talking about on D Street and Burlington! There was an empty lot with about three or four palm trees and around the lot, there was a ditch. When I was very young my mom and my aunt came running in and I heard them talking about druids or something outside in robes !! I got scared. We went next door to the next trailer. This is real! Things like this are real. The lot is not there anymore. There's houses there now! We hear noises on the roof. Footsteps and they were leaning against the back door. Whoever wrote this story is telling the truth and I know exactly where you are talking about.

I was a night time janitor at the school superintendents building down town. It was the old court house and jail I believe in the 1800's. We used to hear voices at night when nobody was there. Also heard piano playing upstairs.
Many images out of the corner of my eye including people being hanged in the stairs over the landing on the way down to the basement. It was very creepy.

Comment by Shawna: I grew up in Oroville and read a lot about the history here. Someone was suppose to have been hanged in a tree by that old jailhouse, I believe that was the last public hanging in Oroville.
