cried out in surprise. And I was delighted to find it was a big goofy looking Labrador Retriever. He walked all the way home with me, keeping me company.

When we arrived at my door, I opened it. He had no collar or tags, and I was afraid he might be a stray, or -- as dark as he was -- get hit by a car himself on the way home. He would not come into the house and sat on the porch looking almost amused as I called ''good boy, come on, good boy, come on in. '' The dog looked up at me and his expression changed utterly.
