This happened in May 2001 during a short stay at the ''old'' Calaveras County Jail in the women's G. P. cell in San Andreas, California. I was awake very late that night reading a bible. There were eight other women asleep in their bunks. Suddenly the room was cold, and then a plastic cup half full of water was thrown off the table I was sitting at, and it hit the wall. Before I could even draw a breath to scream, the two girls in the corner wall bunk beds

began choking and gasping for air. Then she put both hands to her neck and pushed herself backwards so hard that she hit her head against the concrete

wall.
At the exact same moment, the girl in the upper bunk screamed. To me, it looked like she was about to fall off the bunk onto the concrete floor, but one of her legs was off the bed. She said that she had actually almost been pulled off that upper bunk. The six other women asleep were awakened by all the commotion. I told them what had just happened and what I saw. The lower bunk girl had a knot on the back of her head, and she said that something
