My nephew and I went to Fisherman's Wharf for lunch and decided to tour the beautiful old sailing ship, the Balclutha. On the ship we wandered around on our own. I went down some stairs and heard a little girl's voice. It sounded like she was talking to a baby, kind of sing-song. I followed the voice and came to a bedroom that was a display. It had bars across the door to prevent tourists from entering. A woman and a little girl about five years old were sitting on the bed. The little girl was putting clothes on a doll and kind of singing to her.
As I got right up to the door, the woman looked at me and smiled and seemed so happy to see me! The little girl said ''you can come and play with us. '' I said something like ''Oh, I would love to - how do I get in?'' My nephew came up behind me right then and said ''Aunt Jeannie, who are talking to''? I turned around to look at him, and he was looking straight into the room. When I turned back around, the room was exactly the same except the woman, the little girl, and the doll were gone. I told my nephew I was just talking to myself because I didn't want to scare him. Much later I went back and took an organized tour of the ship. When we came to that bedroom display, the guide told us that the ship's captain had a wife and little girl, and the wife was very unhappy on long sailing trips because she had no one to interact with except the little girl.

Last year between March and September of 2013 I was in San Francisco with my husband. His job moves around so we were there for these many months. I didn't take a vehicle in the first 2 weeks we were there so I took public transportation to the areas of downtown and the city hall and library (to use the internet).
The library only allows 1 hour of use at a time per day.. Every day I would see a person walk by talking to no one, I would say in my mind leave him / her alone you are dead. And then the living person who was talking even if they had just passed by me would turn around and look me straight in the eye and not say anything and then just keep on walking.
One day an older woman got on the bus and she was sitting on the front bench facing towards the middle. And I could literally see that she was talking in very low baby talk voice to a floating baby but behind that baby was like a black box and behind that was a large big bulky black mass and the mass was using the baby image to talk to her or to keep her interested in it.
