I lived a couple of blocks from Lake San Marcos for four months in 2006, and I had just turned twenty that August. I was renting a room from an older couple who I found to be rather endearing, considering I had recently lost my grandfather to pneumonia and my widowed grandmother sadly lived across the country in Mississippi.
The first several weeks were welcoming, with family style dinners after longs days attending my trade school and early

bedtimes to prepare for the next day. Since the couple was in their late 70s and early 80s, they typically went to bed at around 8pm, so at that time
|
all the lights would be turned off in the house, and I would retire to my own room for some TV and reading before eventually falling asleep around 10.
To give you an idea of the layout, my room was a perfect little square. I shared one wall with the garage, I shared another wall with the living room which was my entryway, and I had a slider that led to the backyard connecting to the fourth wall, which was all windows lined with hedges facing the west side
