Five of my friends and I were walking through Pogonip, the forest behind Merrill College at UCSC, late at night along the railroad tracks. We had been walking back to campus from The Garden of Eden when we saw an extremely bright light behind us on the railroad tracks. It made a sound like a train, so we all got off of the tracks and waited for it to pass. The light came closer and closer, but it never passed us. The light just went out, and its sounds

evaporated. We never saw a train or anything else pass.
We told the story to some other kids from UCSC, and two other guys had a similar story

to ours. They were cross country runners and were running on the tracks early in the morning. It was very foggy when a train passed them, but they said that the people on it were all looking at them with blank faces. They ran further without thinking much about it when they saw a man in the middle of the tracks hacking at a tree that had fallen over the tracks with an axe. They did not understand how the train had crossed the tree, or how the man had
