I used to work for the school district. I had never been inside the main building when it was Wells. I was a frequent visitor after it was converted to the DO. There are restrooms near the northwest corner that I was terrified to enter because if I even walked by them, I could feel a temp change and get goose bumps, and I would immediately feel nauseated. Creepy place!.

I worked at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi during a span of three decades. During that time both staff and inmates have reportedly seen apparitions. The two ever spoken of being seen were women and Native American. The sightings were mostly reported at Unit One, Unit Two, and Unit Three.

Staff who witnessed these events would never really make a big issue after the sighting. This was due to being identified by administrative staff as needing psychological help or possibly under the influence. The inmates who claimed to see apparitions didn't hold back.
Another staff member confided in me while working their assigned post on CCI Unit I, the perimeter tower - an armed post. He had witnessed an apparition of a Native American dancing in the Sweat Lodge. The apparition had a head of a Native and a body of a serpent and began moving oddly, not walking towards the perimeter fence but fading away as it passed through the fence and finally disappeared. The Sweat Lodge is an area of land fenced off inside each of the 5 facilities at CCI and has been blessed by the Native American Sponsor. This is the Native Americans place of worship.
Another encounter was at CCI Unit III, also a perimeter tower armed post. At approximately 0100 hours one staff member informed me they had witnessed a man wearing Native American ceremonial type clothing dancing on the inside of both perimeter fences. He immediately grabbed his issued mini-14 rifle, sliding open the tower window and realizing what he was looking at was approximately 120 meters away and was translucent. No sound was being made. The apparition was dancing through both fences and disappeared. These descriptions given by staff have occurred more than once and were all similar in regards to their assigned posts and descriptions of events. All occurred during the night.
