I lived in an apartment on Laukapu Street in Hilo. At first, the place was fine, but gradually things started happening. Before this I found the concept of ghosts interesting but was not sure whether I believed in them.
I think it started with disembodied voices. I would hear them long after the frogs stopped singing when it was quiet. The voices were outside, right next to my bed, in another room, etc. It would wake me and my dog up.

I saw a face reflected in the window. I turned away for several minutes thinking my eyes are playing tricks on me. When I looked back, the face was wide-eyed staring at me, and the mouth looked like it was eliciting a scream.

Shortly after this, the knocks came from the inside of the closet door. I'd hear these on occasion and no, nothing was in the closet, and yes, I'm positive it came from the inside of the closet. Electricity was crazy. Various lights plugged into different outlets would flicker or just go out. I went through 7-year light bulbs on a weekly basis.
Things would fly off the wall, not drop to the floor but fly 6' from the wall. A shoe picked itself and dropped right before my eyes. I used to see shadows and blurred white mists zip by the windows in the direction of the ocean - as if being swept out to sea (by a tsunami?).
I now live in a very old house right next to a graveyard. This house might look spooky, but it's NOTHING compared to that apartment complex on Laukapu Street.
