According to legend, one day Tom was walking to town and while crossing one of the many bridges out on the dikes he had a stroke. He fell off of the bridge and into the murky water below and drowned. His body got stuck in the soft mud at the bottom of the slough. He remained there submerged to his chest in mud, and the rest of him completely covered by the water. He was there until the water level dropped 2 summers later summer, revealing him from

the chest up.
A woman driving over the bridge spotted him in the slough. She was certain he was still alive and stuck in the mud. She hurried home

and called 911 for help then went back to bridge, afraid he would sink even further in the mud and suffocate. She shouted to him multiple times and got no response. Only then did she realize he was already dead. Soon she found out it who is was and how long he had been there. It was Tom, who had gone missing and drowned over a year and a half ago. He was so well preserved from the mud, he appeared to have just recently expired.
