on the Applegate River until after the death of her husband, she'd gone blind and our family placed her into nursing care. The very last time that I visited her which was just prior to her death, she made a strange request of me: she begged for me to watch over her family after she was gone, of course I promised her that I would. She didn't have any children and she was in her 90's when she died. This occurred about thirty years ago when I was in my early twenties.

years passed and I'd pretty much forgotten about her request of me. I began researching my family's history several years ago. I'd visit the LDS Church's

genealogy lab and occasionally being a member of the Josephine County Historical Society, I'd visit there in my quest for information on my family's history. One day that I went to JCHS, they were having a book sale; I began browsing through many books which were opened up on tables. I walked up to one of the tables and picked up a book which had caught my attention; the right page had a picture of a grave marker which its caption described about the damage
