her only comment was ''Hmmm. ''
Years later I was back at the store and old man Schroeder himself was walking up the long ramp to the second level with me. I told him about my first ghost encounter there, and he told me it had at some point been a mortuary. The long ramp was for moving the coffins. He said something casual as well like ''well I guess a lot of them don't want to leave or don't know how. He, like the clerk, seemed to know about them,

When I was 13 I lived in a NE Portland neighborhood. My family was about to go fishing. My cousin asked if I wanted to go because the car was leaving. I was about to take a shower and locked the bathroom door. I could hear the front door slam after my cousin left the house and a clear click. I was alone I presumed. While I was showering I was humming a tune. All of a sudden right behind the shower curtain I heard a young female singing off tune ''La La La La''. I froze, and it took time and courage to finish showering and flip open the curtain. My first instinct was to call my parents and ask when one of them would be home first. I think I tried to keep busy and calm with something fun while waiting.
Fast forward to the next year. I had been volunteering at Adventist Medical Hospital for months. The hospital has been renovated, so it's not the same anymore I think. It was late night, and I went down to the lower level to grab a food cart from the kitchen in order to deliver food to patients in the hospital upstairs. After exiting the kitchen I felt an urge to look to my left as I went down the white hallway which was empty.
There was a room which may have been a women's staff lounge. It was open, and a red light (like that of a dark photo developing room) lit the room. It wasn't the lamps sitting on the small table though. On the couch on the right hand seat was a woman in a white gown staring right at me. She had dark matted long black hair. Her head was somewhat tilted up. Her eyes were dark, and I am not sure if I saw the whites of her eyes or not, and her dark mouth was gaping open. Yes, she had a nose with dark nostrils, but I didn't notice that feature so well as her mouth and eyes were so open. Her hands were placed on her lap. I know it wasn't a demonic version of me sitting there. I'm short. She wasn't. That gave me some relief. It was maybe 2 seconds of this vision because I was walking pushing my cart and not wanting to linger. I remember whispering to myself what-the -f***!! I sped walk and felt relieved to see an employee in the hallway.
