It wasn't a constant sound but would last maybe 8-10 seconds and then start again in another 30 seconds. We were walking toward the area where they've preserved a piece of the Oregon trail. After hearing the trotting or galloping several times it stopped altogether as we neared the preserved piece of trail and I didn't hear anything more.
There was a light drizzly rain that day and I've heard that water can be a conductor for spirit activity and

those sorts of things. That was the only time I've experienced anything while there. I used to do school field trips there with my class in elementary

school.

Comment by Jennifer: My husband is related to Dr. and Narissa Whitman. While visiting the site we caught an evo on a recorder that we didn't know was on. We were standing by the Whitman's home discussing where Narissa had died. When we played the recording back an unexplained voice said right here.
